More on Slayers REVOLUTION

In regards to the comment by zyxman on the post below, we are considering releasing only the raw translations of the episodes, but we’re in deliberation. Everyone in this group, at least quite a few of us, are huge fans, as I’ve said before… but there are a lot of legal and moral implications according to continuing with this series.

Recently there was a panel in Otakon 2008 with a discussion (not debate or “you-versus-us”) between Dattebayo, Live-eviL, Shinsen-Subs, FUNimation, Media Works, and Anime Works. They discuss the anime industry and fansub industry and the entire gray area that is… well, us. Since I live roughly one and a half hours away from Otakon, I actually shelled out the money to get in and left as soon as this panel was over. Sue me, I was intrigued.

I cannot speak for everyone in this group, but as the coordinator of the group, I have to say IY4Ever² Fansubs agrees with pretty much everything that these fansubs groups represent and bring to the table in regards to licensed media. When FUNimation, as stated by their representative, asks you to stop fansubbing something, it’s going to come to America and the English speaking audience. Maybe not from them, but from someone.

That is why we’re deliberating. If it wasn’t ever coming to America or an English speaking audience, we would have said, “Take a hike,” and dealt with the legal implications that they shoved our way. But it will be available to the English audience. Maybe not in the way you would necessarily want, but it’s coming.

Update: We’ve agreed to release the scripts. Look forward to Slayers REOVLUTION 06 tomorrow, 07 the day after, and, in a couple days (probably two or three), 08!

I’ve translated through episode 8, but I’ve kind of lost the will to keep going if nothing’s going to get released. I know there’s hurricanes and all and Zephie’s in Florida, but I keep getting told they’ll be released, and then nothing.

I gave Zeph the script… but he really ain’t here… and I never received 8 for timings… anyway… let’s hope he’ll get back soon or I’ll go kick him! (Dunno how, though… I can’t release without him)

Hello, I can’t exactly find an email address, so I’m sorry if this isn’t very relevant to your posting but I’ll just try here anyway. I’m a university student doing a research project on fansub groups and was wondering if IY4Ever (sorry i can’t do the square thingy) would not mind participating in it? We will probably conduct interviews on how the group began, what are some of the reasons some of you went into fansubs and so on. If you’re interested and do not mind helping out, we would really appreciate it! Please contact me at u0600123@nus.edu.sg

    Thanks!

I was wondering if you are seriously continuing subbing “Gokinjo Monogatari”? That would be a very good thing to do since noone else seems to be doing it and lots of people love Yazawa Ai’s work like “Nana” and “Paradise Kiss”, the sort of semi sequel to Gokinjo Monogatari. It’s really sad to watch the first few episodes and then realise that the next ones arn’t going to be available anytime soon. I know that 50 episodes are a lot, but could you give an update on when you think that there will be updates and how often, if there will be updates. That would be awesome.

Anyhow, good job on subbing the first few episodes. Now I at least got to see some of the things that happened before ParaKiss and most importantly I got a sense of the style and tone in Gokinjo. I owe that to you, but I would love to see the whole thing one day!

(I wish I could buy it with english subs. But there is no such DVD available. Oh well.)
