Video Woes

We are wholly inexperienced in the matter of H264 video. It’s sad to say we’ve once again run into another problem: this time, the audio and video is completely out of synch. Encoded to a no b-frame video to preserve video accuracy actually creates a massive desynch in the audio; the more the video gets towards the middle, the worse it gets, and the closer the video gets to the end, after passing the middle, it gets better.

Between my being incredibly sick (the bad flu kind where you can hardly leave bed) and my horrible monetary situation (which will be solved soon, thankfully), I haven’t been able to find a cure. We have one last resort to solving this issue before having to turn completely to a 704×396 raw. We really don’t want to do this, because the quality isn’t near as good as the HD ones we’ve been using, but if we have no choice, we have no choice.

We’ll get out these episodes soon, but for the time being, please be patient. We just want to bring you the best, and we’re working hard towards doing that.

Maybe you can try contacting Dattebayo, they do fansubs as well. They’ve been doing the HD Naruto’s for a while now and don’t seem to be having issues, maybe they have some tips?

Can only give the support to finding a solution to these troubles. Do agree asking around for some advice could lead to some solutions. Maybe not Dattebayo, but plenty of sub groups out there to talk with.

Was pretty sick like that myself so definitely know how you feel in that regard.

With Funimation throwing its weight around its really become your show on the sub area. Eclipse as a result has pulled out.

Maybe the people at doom9.net can help you. Another good site for help on video conversion is videohelp.com.

Well, why I myself may not know anything to help you, I wish you guys the best of luck in bringing the videos out. After all, you’re the only distro for Slayers Revolution left, and I hope you don’t get targetted like the other groups did.

    Good luck!

I ran into something like that once or twice when I demuxed a couple of mkv’s in order to correct some misspelled words and grammatical errors in the subtitles. In my case, I had to change both audio and video compression to constant frame and bit rates, and had to specify the fps when remuxing using mkvtools. There’s a good chance that the rates drift because the audio is variable or adjustable while the video is constant, or vice-versa. It could also be that the audio codec/format only supports adjustable or variable, as an example let’s say that the audio from the RAW is in DTS at 48KHz with an adjustable bitrate, and if so, you’ll need to convert to a different codec compression. You might need to use something like Tranzcode, and Audacity to go from DTS to MP3, or Tranzcode, Audacity, and BeSweet to go from DTS to AC3, I think. I’m tired, so don’t quote me on that. The thing is that you might want to look at your frame and bit rates first, and try to convert them to constant to see if that fixes the problem. There might be problems with time dilation, but if the audio just starts and ends too quickly after converting to constant, you can state a delay in milliseconds in the remux using mkvtools.

Anyway, from what you’ve described, it sounds like a rate problem, possibly with the audio. I’ve been working with mkv for a little while now, but you might want to just join another fansub’s IRC channel, and ask if there’s an encoder in it who might be willing to help you figure out what is wrong.

    Good luck.
