Recently there was a panel in Otakon 2008 with a discussion (not debate or “you-versus-us”) between Dattebayo, Live-eviL, Shinsen-Subs, FUNimation, Media Works, and Anime Works. They discuss the anime industry and fansub industry and the entire gray area that is… well, us. Since I live roughly one and a half hours away from Otakon, I actually shelled out the money to get in and left as soon as this panel was over. Sue me, I was intrigued.

I cannot speak for everyone in this group, but as the coordinator of the group, I have to say IY4Ever² Fansubs agrees with pretty much everything that these fansubs groups represent and bring to the table in regards to licensed media. When FUNimation, as stated by their representative, asks you to stop fansubbing something, it’s going to come to America and the English speaking audience. Maybe not from them, but from someone.

That is why we’re deliberating. If it wasn’t ever coming to America or an English speaking audience, we would have said, “Take a hike,” and dealt with the legal implications that they shoved our way. But it will be available to the English audience. Maybe not in the way you would necessarily want, but it’s coming.

Update: We’ve agreed to release the scripts. Look forward to Slayers REOVLUTION 06 tomorrow, 07 the day after, and, in a couple days (probably two or three), 08!

While it has always been my personal belief that fansubs only support the American companies by “previewing” their work, I own my own business, and as a business man I understand the right of wanting to protect your intellectual properties.

It is a sad day today that I must announce that IY4Ever² Fansubs is dropping Slayers REVOLUTION.

Hopefully, somewhere, a group of anonymous people will continue on to finish this series for the fans, but for now I must ask you to support your local anime distribution company and purchase Slayers REVOLUTION when you arrive on DVD shelves. I will be.

Between my being incredibly sick (the bad flu kind where you can hardly leave bed) and my horrible monetary situation (which will be solved soon, thankfully), I haven’t been able to find a cure. We have one last resort to solving this issue before having to turn completely to a 704×396 raw. We really don’t want to do this, because the quality isn’t near as good as the HD ones we’ve been using, but if we have no choice, we have no choice.

We’ll get out these episodes soon, but for the time being, please be patient. We just want to bring you the best, and we’re working hard towards doing that.
